Modalities

I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, depending on what best suits each client and their unique needs. Here’s a description of the different modalities I am trained in and will draw from during our work together:

Person-Centred Therapy

This approach forms the foundational bedrock of our experience in session. It is all about creating a safe, respectful space where you feel deeply heard and understood. You set the pace, and the focus stays on what matters to you.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR helps people process difficult-to-reach memories and experiences which are causing pain in the present moment. It uses eye movements and/or tapping to support the brain’s natural healing processes. People who find it difficult to talk about trauma often appreciate this approach.

Animal-Assisted Therapy

Animals can bring comfort, connection, and a sense of calm to therapy. They also are very sensitive to our energetic state – even when we are not aware of it. This can be very helpful in learning about our inner landscape and what’s going on in there. Some people find that being with a friendly animal can make it easier to relax and open up during a session.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy helps you tune into what your body is feeling. It’s helpful for healing stress and trauma that can get “stuck” in the body, allowing healthy release and reprocessing.

IFS (Internal Family Systems)

IFS is a way of getting to know the different “parts” of yourself – like the inner critic or the anxious part – with compassion and curiosity. You’ll learn to connect with your calm, wise core self in your healing journey.

Hakomi

Hakomi is a gentle, body-centred therapy that uses mindfulness to explore how your past may be shaping your present. It’s about slowing down, noticing, and healing with the support you have been missing.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy combines simple movement, breath, and awareness to support both body and mind. Yoga practices can help improve flexibility and balance in one’s thinking in the same way as it does physically.

Kids

With 25 years of experience as a teacher in the public school system, I offer support to children and families navigating the challenges of school life. Whether your child is neurodivergent, struggling with anxiety, or just having a hard time fitting into the school system, I can help. I understand how schools work, and I share practical strategies that can ease stress – for students, parents, and teachers alike. My goal is to help everyone feel more confident, connected, and supported.

“I arrived unsure of what to expect. One hour later, I left literally marvelling. Ellen had provided me with insights I wasn’t expecting. And these insights were practical, pragmatic, in other words, immediately useful. You will be very grateful to yourself if you spend this type of time with Ellen”
